Internships At CCAHS

Who's Eligible for Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection (WLC) Internship?

Students (grades 11 – 12) in Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn, or Washington counties in Iowa are eligible to apply.

What is a Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection Internship?

A student Internship is a great way for high school students to get experience, gain new skills, and learn more about different jobs and career fields.  The internship program is a great way to develop skills in Professionalism, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Social Awareness, and Communication.

CCAHS Students who signed up for an internship should know the following things:

  •  Communication is key!  You will need to work with WLC (via email and phone) to set your experience up. You will also need to communicate with your site host throughout the process.  This isn't your parents' responsibility...this is all about you.

  • Our internships are 60 hours of work.  You must complete and verify those hours with your site host.

  • You will have a journal to complete for the WLC.  Rochelle Sowers will also host you for a few meetings, where you'll reflect on your internship experience.  Those activities are not connected to CCAHS, but they are required for you to earn credit from us.

  • If you choose, you can earn an elective credit for your internship.  You must complete all requirements from WLC and also complete assignments from CCAHS.  These are designed to get you to think more about the world of work and how you fit in that world. Nothing too taxing...but they are required.  Once you complete all requirements, the credit will appear on your transcript.

  • Transportation is your responsibility.

  • These internships are unpaid.

Internships are a great way to learn more about a career before going to college or post-high school training.  These experiences can lead to a greater interest in a particular field, or lead to the realization that this job might not be right for you.  Either way, you are guaranteed to get something out of it.

Fill out this form if you'd like Mrs. Amelon to contact you about Internships.  We can schedule a meeting to discuss any questions you might have.
